How to Stay Compliant and Conserve Water This Season

As the warm weather settles in, water demand naturally increases, especially when it comes to lawn care and outdoor irrigation.

At Hampstead Area Water Company (HAWC), we’re committed to managing our water supply responsibly to ensure sustainability for all customers. That’s why it’s important that all residents familiarize themselves with our Outdoor Watering Policy, which is available in full on our website:

What Does the Policy Include?

HAWC’s Outdoor Watering Policy applies to lawn watering only and is designed to promote efficient water use.

 Key components include:

  • Odd/Even Watering Schedule:
Properties with odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered days; even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered days.
  • Time-of-Day Restrictions:
    The use of
irrigation systems and lawn sprinklers is strictly prohibited between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
This helps minimize water loss due to evaporation during the hottest parts of the day.

Why Is This Important?

Excessive outdoor water use places a strain on our water system, particularly during the summer months. Enforcing this policy helps ensure that our wells can keep up with demand, maintaining adequate supply and pressure for all customers including during peak usage times.

Please note that this policy will be strictly enforced. Non-compliance may result in further restrictions or disconnection of your water service.

How You Can Help

  • Review the full policy on our website.
  • Adjust your irrigation schedule to comply with the odd/even rule and time restrictions.
  • Consider alternative methods like rain barrels, drip irrigation, or hand watering during permitted hours.

By working together and following these simple guidelines, we can protect our shared water resources and support a sustainable water supply for everyone.

Thank you for doing your part!
