Temporary Water Discoloration Possible During Emergency Repair
We want to keep our customers informed about important work affecting your water service. Today, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, The Hampstead Area Water Company, Inc. (HAWC) is performing an emergency leak repair at the bottom of Providence Hill Road in Atkinson.
What to Expect
As a result of this necessary repair work, some customers in the surrounding area may experience temporary water discoloration between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
What You Should Do
If you notice discolored water:
- Run your cold-water tap for about 10 to 15 minutes
- This will help flush your service lines and clear the discoloration

Routine flushing will continue at various HAWC water systems throughout the month of September. This essential maintenance helps ensure continued water quality and reliability by removing naturally occurring minerals and sediment, improving system performance, and extending the life of the water distribution system. Customers in the affected areas will also receive an automated call at the phone number on file prior to their scheduled flushing date. The schedule below reflects the systems scheduled for flushing from Monday, September 14th through Thursday, September 17th, 2026.

This essential maintenance helps ensure continued water quality and reliability by removing naturally occurring minerals and sediment, improving system performance, and extending the life of the system.
