Updated Notice: System Flushing Postponed for Hampstead Customers
Customers Will Receive Advance Notice Before Flushing Resumes
The Hampstead Area Water Company, Inc. (HAWC) would like to inform customers that the previously scheduled Routine System Flushing originally planned for May 4–15, 2026, has been postponed.
At this time, flushing activities for the town of Hampstead are expected to resume either during the Summer or Fall of 2026. A follow-up notification will be provided to customers prior to flushing operations beginning so residents have advance notice of any potential impacts.
Why Do We Flush?
Routine flushing is an important part of maintaining a safe and reliable water distribution system. Flushing helps to:
- Maintain water quality by removing iron, manganese, and sediment
- Improve overall system performance and maintain optimal water pressure
- Prevent long-term buildup and extend the lifespan of the water distribution system
All flushing activities are performed in accordance with the guidelines of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES), which identifies routine flushing as an essential component in maintaining the safety, quality, and reliability of public water systems.
What to Expect
While flushing is taking place in your area, you may experience:
- Temporary reduced water pressure
- Discolored water
